30 Day Nail Challenge Day 24: Inspired By A Book

The 30 Day Nail Challenge is in the home stretch! Day 24 is a manicure inspired by a book, since I am a huge fan of science fiction and my all time favourite book is The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams I had to choose it as my inspiration.

For those of you who have not read the book or seen the movie you should check it out and also have a look at books 2-5 in the trilogy!
I was perusing my favourite blogs when I stumbled upon a gorgeous pastel coloured galaxy nail on Hey, Nice Nails!. I was enchanted and tried to recreate the look on my own nails.

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 22: Inspired by a Song

Today the 30 Day Nail Challenge is inspired by a song. I really struggled with this one because I have had Rihanna’s Diamonds stuck in my head for a week now and could not think of another song to do. I finally settled on… Empire State of Mind by Jay Z as my inspiring song, and as a bonus it gave me a chance to use nail tattoos again.

I really like this look, I probably should have stamped on top of the Statue of Liberty’s fireworks after adding glitter but it was time to stop and go to bed.

For this look I used:
Nailene nail tattoos
Seche Vite Base Coat
Revlon grey suede, enchanting, provoke
L’OrĂ©al safari chic

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 21: Inspired by a Colour

Today is the 21st day of the 30 Day Nail Challenge and the theme is inspired by a colour. I decided to do a marine or ocean blue nail and since I’m getting so good at this water marbling thing, I decided to give it another go. I started with a white base, stamped on some marine life and, did a water marble on top. Some of the stamping was obscured by the water marbling but it still turned out well and they received some compliments when I wore them.

20130515-151625.jpg
I might try this look again but I will use an all over stamp as my base and the individual stamps on top of the water marble.

For this look I used:
Seche Vite Base Coat
Pure Ice twisted
Revlon eclectic
Maybelline Color Show blue blowout
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear breezy blue
Seche Vite Top Coat

Nail Plates:
Bundle Monster BM08, BM12, BM04
Gals Princess Set GA6, GA14, GA17
Gals Fairy Set GA42
Winstonia W106, W108

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 20: Water Marble

I hope everyone had a good Mother’s Day this weekend. My mom was really happy with the flowers I sent her and she really enjoyed the lobster my dad bought for her.
Day 20 of the 30 Day Nail Challenge is water marble nails, if you follow me on Instagram you will know that this is not my favourite type of manicure. I find it messy and uncontrollable. I have found that by applying some type of greasy lotion on the cuticle and fingertip of the soon to be marbled digit you can cut down on the messiness. I have also found that certain polishes work better than others for this process (Revlon polishes tend to spread more, Pure Ice and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish do not spread out in the water unless they are used first). I have also practiced on some false nails to try and get the hang of this technique. So here you are, my water marble manicure in shades of purple.

For this look I used:
Seche Vite Base Coat
Revlon eclectic, fashionista, optimistic
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear breezy blue
Seche Vite Top Coat
I like the way these turned out and have started warming up to the water marble process. I warmed up so much to the water marbling that I decided to give it a go with some other polishes on my Cinderella hand. I also received some mini Essie polishes from the summer collection as a gift from my Bestie and I was itching to try them.

20130513-154033.jpg
My Cinderella hand was done using Essie: off the shoulder, mojito madness, bikini so teeny, fear or desire.
These colours worked really well for water marbling, thanks Bestie!

Do you have any tricks or tips to share? I could really use them to help me perfect the technique.

Next up in the 30 Day Nail Challenge is a manicure inspired by a colour.

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 17: Glitter

Today’s 30 Day Nail Challenge is glitter! I love glitter! It is amazing but very hard to remove, as many of you know. I have a really hard time passing up a glitter polish, if it happens to be on sale I definitely will not be passing it by! So for day 17 I decided to go all out on the glitter.

20130505-133947.jpg
I started with undies in Revlon Provence, the black base for the Moon Candy, Maybelline Color Show sea-quins and then added some Nail Candy cocoa s’more, the top coat to the moon candy and, stamping to the glitter.
What do you think? I really like the stamping over the glitter, I will be doing that again sometime soon.

For this look I used
Seche Vite Base Coat
Maybelline Color Show sea-quins
Revlon Provence
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear celeb city
Revlon Moon Candy moon dust
Nail Candy cocoa s’more
I also added some rhinestones from cheeky beauty.

Next up in the 30dnc is half moons…

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 16: Tribal

The 30 Day Nail Challenge for day 16 is tribal. I really wanted to use my Ruby Wing colour changing polish but I didn’t want to have all green nails. I finally settled on a striped three colour base with a tribal style stamp over top. I really like the way this look turned out, I also like the fact that the base doesn’t need to be precise if you add a stamp to it. I added an accent nail of liquid sand by O.P.I. From the Wizard of Oz collection.

20130430-143001.jpg
For this look I used:
O.P.I. What wizardry is this?
Ruby Wing cut grass
Revlon eclectic
Revlon provoke
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear black out
Seche Vite Top Coat
Seche Vite Base Coat

What do you think? Have any of you tried the new colour changing polishes?

Here is the side by side comparison of the colour change. This is Ruby Wing cut grass, it is also scented like cut grass. The scent was pleasant but not overpowering and it disappeared fairly quickly.

Next up in the 30 Day Nail Challenge is Glitter!!!!! So excited, I love glitter!!

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 15: Delicate Print

Half way there! This is day 15 of the 30 Day Nail Challenge, today’s mani is a delicate print. I really wanted to use my O.P.I liquid sand that I purchased at Winners the other day and the Nailene nail tattoos that I features in my rainbow manicure a few posts back. I like the way it turned out but I’m not super thrilled with it. I feel as though it needs more izzyfication.

20130428-103014.jpg

What do you think? Have you ever worked with the liquid sand? I really like the liquid sand product but it is very rough and I have found that it tends to get stuck on woven fabrics.

For this look I used:
Revlon grey suede, vixen
O.P.I. Liquid sand stay the night
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear golden-I
Seche Vite Base Coat
Seche Vite Top Coat

Next up on the 30DNC is tribal…

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 14: Flowers

Whoop! Whoop! Two weeks of manicures down! I’m almost half way there! Today is day 14 of the 30 Day Nail Challenge and today’s theme is flowers. I used two new Revlon colours and my new Bundle Monster nail plates for this one.

20130424-221740.jpg
I changed the orientation of the design on my Cinderella hand (props to Martha @chitchatnails for coining a term for the often ignored dominant hand. Lol) I love the colour choice, the stamp looks like a French Toile print, my absolute favourite print ever. The yellow Revlon nail polish didn’t stamp very well over the pink so I used the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear mellow yellow to stamp the flower bud design. I like the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes the most when it comes to stamping polishes, especially if they start getting thick and gloppy.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

For this look I used:
Revlon: optimistic, sunshine sparkle
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear: mellow yellow (stamping)
Seche Vite Top Coat
Bundle Monster nail plates: 09, 06

I went to Winners today and found a bunch of new polishes including some of the O.P.I. Wizard of Oz collection!!!! I can not wait to try them!!

Next up in the 30DNC is: Delicate Print

30 Day Nail Challenge Day 13: Animal Print

Today’s 30 Day Nail Challenge is animal print. I received a bunch of new nail plates and bought some new Hard Candy polish that reminded me of peacock feathers so I figured this would fit into the animal print category.

20130422-190455.jpg
I splotched on the different polish colours then stamped the pattern on using a Bundle Monster nail plate.

For this look I used:
Hard Candy: pee wee purple, crush on raisin, crush on ivy
Pure Ice: twisted
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear: Golden I, black ice
Seche Vite Top Coat

Next up Flowers!
